Professor Lo is the Director of the Li Ka Shing Institute of Health Sciences at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He discovered the presence of cell-free fetal DNA in maternal plasma in 1997. He has pioneered a number of key technologies for noninvasive prenatal testing and cancer liquid biopsies. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society and a Foreign Associate of the US National Academy of Sciences and won the Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences (2021). He was elected as an academician of the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2023.
